Las Cruces – Susana Martinez, Republican gubernatorial candidate today issued the following statement in response to news reports that the Department of Justice has decided not to issue indictments against Governor Bill Richardson or members of his administration:
“It is a sad and disappointing day when public officials celebrate the fact that they will not be criminally charged for an alleged pay-to-play scheme where state bonds went to a political fundraiser. Whether its today’s news about the FBI investigation into the Richardson/Denish Administration, or recent news concerning the indictment of the former secretary of state, it all speaks to the same issue: corruption is running rampant in Santa Fe and must be rooted out. New Mexicans are sick and tired of seeing elected officials violating the public trust and they are demanding reform. I am the only candidate who has a proven track record of taking on corrupt officials and bringing them to justice. As governor, I will instill integrity and confidence in state government by ushering in a true ‘culture of responsibility’ as opposed to turning a blind eye to waste, fraud, and abuse.”
